Programs + Careers

You don’t have to take my word for it…take theirs!

take my advice

I recently put a call out to graduates of the Law Clerk Advanced program.  I was looking for advice that they – as people who had been there, done that, got the diploma and got the career – could share with you, my current students, who are at various stages of your own careers.  Some of you have just started the program, others are preparing for their first field placement and others are entering their final year!  I was overwhelmed by how quickly wisdom had set in (not really – I knew you had it in you!) and by the volume of replies.  The end result is that I will have a weekly feature for my Team Experience page until the advice runs dry.  Now, you don’t just have to take my word for it :-).

This week’s advice guru had this to say:

The college experience, especially in the legal field, is going to be one of the most challenging things you will face.  Accept the challenge, embrace the change, and broaden the way in which you analyze; learn all there is to learn!

Live and die by your deadlines – the real world does not grant extensions.  Time and expectation management are very valuable tools.  If you are not dedicated to your education and future career, you will be doing yourself a disservice and this experience will be for naught.

For some of you, this is a starting point; for some of you this is a career path.  Regardless of which group you fall into, take your education seriously.  If you really push yourself to excel, you will be left with the most incredible feeling of pride in your accomplishment.

Veni, vidi, vici!
