More about Tanya
My name is Tanya Roberts and I am the Sustainability Coordinator for Durham College. I’ve been working at the college for a little over a year now and it’s been a lot of fun so far!
Before coming here, I worked at York University, where I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies and Urban Planning and had the opportunity to work with key faculty who have been at the forefront of the environmental movement in Ontario and around the globe.
I am a passionate person in general, but I most enjoy organizing events and bringing people together – especially around environmental issues, health and well-being. I have a creative side as well and enjoy music, painting, blogging, dancing and anything related to perfumery. I also enjoy travel and experiencing new places and have done a lot of volunteer work in various cities and countries around the world.
I gain a lot from observing people and situations and feel that I bring a lot of insight and knowledge to any position or situation. My family and friends would say that I’m smart, friendly, funny and definitely a bit quirky! I’m that friend who organizes all the get-togethers.
I really enjoy learning, sharing knowledge and creating spaces where conversations can take place in an open environment. I would say that this is my greatest contribution that makes work the most interesting for me. I would say that diplomacy is my greatest strength. I like hearing all sides of a story and working towards solutions proactively.
I’m really excited about the current trends in clean tech/ renewable energy and battery storage– we’re experiencing so many societal and economic shifts right now. It’s a somewhat scary but really exciting time to be alive!
I make a lot of my own products and infusions and am always cooking something up in the kitchen, so the perfect way to spend my downtime would be creating something.
Current obsessions right now include Kombucha — I’m trying to make my own, my bkr water bottle and Four Sigma Mushroom Hot Chocolate.
