More about Sandra

I’m Sandra Bennett, executive director of Human Resources.   I landed a great job at Durham College over 30 years ago and the career opportunities, College culture, and great people have kept me here ever since.   For me, participating in the Experience campaign is about showing potential job candidates what it’s like to work at DC; giving HR students an opportunity to see some of what goes on in a typical HR day; and connecting with our current employees.   I’m a social media novice but I’m always game to learn new things – who knew taking a half decent selfie would be so tough!

I’m crazy about pets – I’ve got two parrots, two cats, and a dog and I have promised my family I won’t get any more pets until . . . well, until I find another one I really want.   I could go on all day about what a great Canadian Terry Fox was – his achievement, his legacy, and his ongoing ability to inspire.   This year I’ll be participating in the run (you don’t actually have to ‘run’ to participate) for the 21st time.  I’m also inspired each year when I attend the Premier’s Awards ceremony and see the amazing accomplishments of graduates of the Ontario College system.   I always leave thinking maybe I should have worked a little harder!

I’m known around the office for solving problems, staying calm, and for having a pretty good sense of humour.   I’m probably known for other things as well but people won’t always tell you the stuff that’s not so flattering :).  My favourite way to spend a weekend is hanging out in Bermuda – the other 51 weekends of the year, I like breakfast at the Lake Grill, a trip to the St. Lawrence Market, catching an Oshawa Generals game, and enjoying a glass or two of wine.
