More about Maria
My name is Maria Iannuzziello and I am the Coordinator of the Police Foundations program here at Durham College. Before becoming a full time faculty member I was a police officer with Durham Regional Police for 18 years. I was also the department’s first female cadet. While I was here on a secondment from the police service, I fell in love with teaching young people and competed for a full time position. Empowering and mentoring young people has definitely become my passion!! I am specifically known for teaching my students ‘Introduction to Psychology’, among other police related courses.
Some of the community events that I have helped with in our program are the CIBC Run for the Cure, Durham Regional Police Disabled Games, Terry Fox Run, Police Memorial Run, and the ‘Youth at risk’ experiential experience, imbedded in our Community Policing course.
In my spare time I love to spend time with family and friends, and love to travel the world. I am involved in a whole host of athletic pursuits whether that be training for a triathlon or doing yoga. One thing I could not give up would be chocolate and red wine.
I grew up in Scarborough, and went to high school in North York. After joining the police department at 18, I started my degree at the University of Toronto, and completed it part-time over an extended period of time. I just completed my Masters degree last May.
I am happy to be part of Team Experience and hope to share many events and highlights of our program with students and parents. We have one of the best programs in Ontario, and I want to show it to everyone!
